Carnivores of Hamilton this is the place you have been waiting for a restaurant solely dedicated to satisfying meat cravings of any kind, so put on your best pair of stretchy pants and unbuckle your belt because and listen. Not too long ago I had the lovely experience of enjoying a meat board at the infamous Saltlick Smokehouse located at 282 James Street N.
Before coming to Saltlick I literally enjoyed a slice of what they had to offer at Knead Pizza and I fell in love. They invented this amazing pizza called “ The Salt Lick” which features tender smoked brisket on the pizza red onion, honey, gorgonzola, cilantro, and pickled jalapeños. Knead Pizza is a great little introduction to Saltlick Smokehouse if you’re unsure of trying out the place and I highly recommend it!
Saltlick Smokehouse offers a wide variety of meat selections at their restaurant and if it’s your first time I would highly recommend trying out the meat board. This will allow you to have a little taste of everything pretty much.
This is how they price out their meat boards:
- 3 types of meat, 2 sides for $22.00
- 4 types of meat, 2 sides for $27.00
- 5 types of meat, 2 sides for $32.00
As you can see it is very reasonably priced for the amount of food you will get, plus it’s always fun to share the meat board with a friend!
My friend and I ended up going with the 3 types of meat and 2 sides, which by the way is more than enough food for you and one other person. For our meat board we selected the following three items:
Flat Iron Steak
Their 60oz Flat Iron Steak is pan seared and is served medium rare, this was my favourite item on the meat board, it was super tender and extremely juicy!

Southern Fried Drumsticks
Saltlick did not cheap us out of a good old fashioned crispy Southern style drumstick. They were huge! These beauties were buttermilk battered and deep fried to crispy perfection, served with the house made plum sauce with a kick to it. So forget Popeye’s if you want good chicken come to Saltlick

Pork Belly Tacos
Saltlick managed to reinvent the wheel and serve up these Pork Belly Tacos. The pork Belly was so crunchy and crispy that there were no words in between bites, just crunch.

Sides
For sides, we decided to go for some comfort food so we opted for the cheesy Mac N’ Cheese and the House Coleslaw. I’m just going to take a page from Drake and say that Saltlick’s Mac N’ Cheese was the best I’ve ever had, it was super creamy, cheesy and to top it all off it had bits of brisket in each bite! Finally to cleanse our pallets we had a wonderful Coleslaw that was fFinely shredded and dressed with vinaigrette dressing.

Saltlick did not fail us, they delivered an exceptional dining experience. The food was not only amazing, but the waitstaff was also very friendly and funny. Put your stretch pants on and head down to Saltlick Smokehouse for a dining experience you won’t forget.
